Scootering: Coronado and Mission Bay

10 Miles around Coronado

Coronado is a California resort city on a peninsula in San Diego Bay. It’s known for the grand Victorian Hotel del Coronado, which opened in 1888. Across from the hotel, the wide, flat Coronado Beach draws surfers and sunbathers. Its western stretch includes the leash-free Coronado Dog Beach. The Coronado Ferry Landing has shops, restaurants and a small beach. Nearby, Centennial Park offers San Diego skyline views.

I started my day of scootering at "Tidelands Park" on Coronado. There's ample parking, a huge grass field, kid's play-structures, bathrooms, picnic tables, baseball fields, a skatepark and an environment that invites leisure and recreation.

Outdoor catering is popping up all over San Diego

Hotel del Coronado, also known as The Del and Hotel Del, is a historic beachfront hotel in the city of Coronado, just across the San Diego Bay from San Diego, California. It is one of the few surviving examples of an American architectural genre: the wooden Victorian beach resort. It is the second largest wooden structure in the United States and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1977.

Scootering took me "behind the scenes" to some quiet, very well kept, upscale homes

You can see the San Diego skyline from many points on Coronado

Coronado is complete. 10 miles. Headed to Mission Bay.

13 miles around Mission Bay

Centered on its namesake waterway, the Mission Bay neighborhood is more than 50% water. A huge manmade water sports zone, popular for sailing and kitesurfing, occupies the western bay. Stand-up paddle-boarders ply the calm waters off Fiesta Island, a peninsular park with a long beach. To the north, salt marsh preserves attract wading birds.

It was a VERY busy and crowded day at Mission Bay

Growing up in San Diego, I have a lot of memories of Belmont Park and the wooden rollercoaster

The Mission Beach boardwalk

I had a snack near the Salt Marsh Preserves

Not quiet done with feasting, I enjoyed a fish burrito at the original Rubio's

There is a Geocache in this photo. It's visible. I can see it. Can you?

As the sun began to set, it was time to head back to my car

UG. Mission Bay traffic. Still a busy and crowded day.

Mission Bay Complete. 13 miles. Heading home.
